Oklahoma lottery making strides to increase prizes
Oklahoma lottery officials voted Tuesday to reduce the amount of money paid to nearly 2,000 retailers that sell lottery tickets to increase prizes in almost a last resort to boost sales. The Lottery Commission has reduced its operating costs to less than 2.5 percent of its $192 million in revenue by reducing office space and cutting the number of staff from 40 to 26, said Rollo Redburn, the agency's executive director. Operating expenses were cut from $9.7 million in 2008 to $4.8 million t

Lotto Pools - Best Tips?
Make copies of the tickets included in the pool and have them sign the copied pages. I also make up a contract and have each one sign stating that winnings will be divided equally amongst those who are in the pool and I have their names on the contract and have them sign that as well. I don't know if you (or anyone else in the pool) purchases any individual tickets outside the pool, but if so, it's a good idea to state that in the contract any tickets bought outside the pool belong to those i

Pa. lottery deal becomes political football
Gov. Tom Corbett is pressing state Attorney General Kathleen Kane to say whether she'll approve a contract to hire a British firm to manage the $3.5 billion Pennsylvania Lottery. Camelot Global Services' bid to take over lottery management from state employees expires Saturday. Kane has a little over three weeks to decide whether the 20- to 30-year contract is legal. In the meantime, the contract's legality is being challenged in court by Democratic lawmakers and the union that represents lot

Two workers in lottery pool sue over $118 million ticket
NEVER EVER EVER EVER PLAY in a Lottery Pool without a Lottery Pool Contract. I don't care if they're your best friends, relatives or even your own mother or father. Today, we live in a wicked world, were values are put on the back burner and trust isn't everything. I play in a Lottery Pool, there are ten onf us. we all signed a contract, and if anyone wihes to drop out it has to be in writing, that way if someone does drop out we have it on paper, no reason to go to court, to hold up everyones m

New England states start new lottery game Thursday
Lotteries fund annuity prizes in a couple of ways. Some lotteries are limited to a very few U.S. government bonds. Others can buy a much wider range of government-backed securities and, in some cases securities held in trust by custodial banks to back portions of the annuity payments (though generally not more than 10% of the principle and interest). In other cases, like Lucky For Life, the annuity payments are paid through insurance company contracts. In a very eerie kind of way, insurance comp

Lottery's biggest loser: Albany man passed on office pool that won $319M jackpot
If I was in a lottery group and one person opted out that one week (but played normally) I would give that person some of the winnings. I would create a contract/agreement that even though they opted out that one week, if the pool each gave that person a certain amount, they can not sue for future money. Better yet, the BEST thing to do is have a contract from the very beginning, stating that in the lotto pool, a player is only able to recieve winnings if they played in that days pool. Also t

Missouri Senate to discuss privatizing state lottery
That's what I thought at first too, because the media always wrote about selling the lottery , but in fact they're not selling the lottery outright. In fact, it probably would be against the law to do so. They are selling a contract for running (operating) the lottery. The government puts the contract out for bid, and evaluates all the companies to see who does the best job while returning the best profit. That's the process Illinois completed, and they awarded a ten-year contract to three co

How much do you spend on the lottery each month?
I am part of an employee pool at work and I was spending $2 a week ($4 if the first set of tickets didn't win) with the other 38 or so employees. So minimum I was paying $8 a month, maximum $16 Now after the $207 million Piqua employee fiasco, we have gone to a contract that requires $20 a month up front or you are excluded for the entire month. I wrote the contract and had it validated by our courts prosecutor and then any contract that is signed by a willing pool player is nota

Is it wrong to...?
A court would definitely give it good consideration, but that's different than having a good case. There's a reasonable argument that in agreeing to get the ticket for somebody else you're entering into a contract. That contract could easily be interpreted to have an implicit agreement that by getting randomly generated numbers you are both agreeing that those numbers are intended only for the person for whom you're buying the ticket. By buying aticket of oyur own you're diluting the value of an
