U.K. National Lottery going on 36-hour break for huge technology upgrade
To me it would like a lot of marketing spin ....
they were supposed to convert to their system when they took over (Feb 2024) and are about 18 months late. Were also supposed to bring back the price of Lotto to GBP1 (today it is GBP 2) and to increase contribution to good causes. Until now have done none of that .... we shall see.
Also, to say that they have invested already GBP350M in the contract sounds a little stretched. Hopefully someone will want to check them on that.

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Oh no, I don't like what am hearing. You are new to the pool and you don't know all the rules. Don't know how many members make up the pool. That's scary.
It's always said great lottery pools have laid down rules that members sign against. It's like a legal binding contract.
If you don't how how many people are in the pool, how sure are you someone is not getting 5M when you are getting 1M?

The rules they have are CYA. It's very common and doesn't mean they're trying to cheat you.

Maine winner of $1.3 billion Mega Millions jackpot will have to reveal identity in court battle
If I were the anonymous winner, I would definely drop the case
The are, or at least were, two cases, and I'm not sure it's about his case. He acknowledges that he told his father without requiring an NDA, so that alone might have ruined his entire case. If it's the countersuit from the wife then he can go to court or accept any settlement she proposes, and it sounds like she's got a real grievance.

DC 5 Lottery needs to be audited immediately. The same thing that happened to Tennessee in 2007
This was bought to my attention from jimjwright regarding my prior post of DC Pick 5 1-200 million odds
As of right now Dc 5 has played all single digits 36 times in a row. Not 1 duplicate digit has been played in the 36 draws. Duplicate digits make up roughly 70% of the numbers. Mathematically this is impossible and seems to be what happened to pick 3 and Pick 4 in Tennessee in 2007

Arizona lottery retailer employee sued after buying $12.8 million ticket knowing it was a winner
it was the first time a big winner was amongst the rejected pile.
I think I remember a similar story in the past, but it's not a good enough memory to be very confident. Memory aside, probability suggest that it would he been for a smaller amount prize.
I'm obviously not a lawyer but it's pretty obvious that the ticket belongs to the store.
It was unsold at the time of the draw therefore the store had to buy it.
I agree, but primarily for a different reason.According to the firs

New York Lottery reviews couriers in state following Texas Lottery controversy
Yes, there can be more than one winner. But they could never win the total jackpot if one or the other bought all the combinations.
So when that happens the prize you're playing for is not the prize on the ticket, but half what it says. You could claim you were enticed or misled to buy the ticket due to the large prizes when the dot com who sold the ticket knew you could not possibly win the total jackpot.
This same dot com is under investigation by the DOJ and facing lawsuits from inve

Circle K asks judge to delay expiration date for $12.8 million Arizona Lottery jackpot amid dispute
Is it even possible that the judge has the authority to ...
What does authority mean? Even a town justice has extremely broad authority until a higher court (or the state board of judicial conduct) steps in. The judge can certainly order the lottery to extend the claim period but the lottery can appeal and potentially have a higher court allow them to follow their usual rules almost as soon as the ink is dry on the lower court's order. I doubt the lottery has the ability to extend the claim
