Thief can't resist lure of lottery tickets
This story is yet another example of why you may not want to name your children after yourself.
For the record, the reason you read similar stories week after week is that stupid people generally don't... read. So very few low-brow crooks would get concepts like time stamping, ticket block voiding and other authentication/security measures.
Set your bookmarks, there'll be another story like it here in the future.

NY-W4--Apr 21-24th
Further Clarification: Any ticket you have to submit a claim for, you WILL PAY TAXES on; either at the time you collect (depending on whether you supply a social security number or you request withholding) or when you file your taxes. This means that you will receive a 1099G from the state indicating the amount you have won.
Any winnings that you collec from your lotto agent, you will not receive a 1099G regarding your winnings.
There is no way around this...

Winning a lottery jackpot can't guarantee happiness
We were posting at the same time, so I didn't see your comment. I've written a similar response. You'll never change Cash Only's mind, since this is his mission! I worked most of my life for a company and was always super responsible with an 800 credit score, etc. and then my life went down the toilet very quickly. So I know what can happen to good investments if you don't get sound advice and how illness or depression can drain your savings. Some people need the discipline and security of an

Newbie
Hi,
This is my first posting and this is one of my favorite sites, I check it like 5-6 times a day. I've been playing the lottery since '89 and have never won more than $20! My number selections have ranged from quick picks, birthdates, social security numbers, serial numbers off of refrigerators, but nothing yet -- I am an optimist!! I regularly play Mega Millions and occasionally California Lottery every week.
I've had two dreams that I matched all the numbers and won, so any da

one huge nationwide jackpot game
Actually Mike, I favor a National or Federal lottery. I think it would be a great idea. Someone suggested in this thread that the money be used for disaster relief...which isn't really a bad idea. But I think an even better use of the money would be to shore up the Social Security system. I think they could make that whole rotten system solvent within a few years and still have money left over to reduce the National Debt.
Great idea! I just don't trust the Federal Government, not j

Mass. Cash Winfall
I say boycott the MA lottery because of this, or at least thursday's drawing of cash winfall. They obviously did this on purpose. The lottery's profit is about $100k on most drawings, but it's close to $1m when they predict a winfall. Now they get $1m profit in back-to-back drawings????? Well wasn't it lucky for them that they overestimated the jackpot!!!
Yeah, it's a fun game, and has a 1 in 6 chance of winning. But don't let their bullying work. Teach them a lesson. Indiana started t

What would the experts do with a lottery jackpot?
Well said, I also agree that security is of prime importance. That is why I am glad I live in a dead town in the middle of nowhere. I would definitely live in a gated type of community, but I would have to build my own, this area is too dead and does not even have them.
Although it still would not be necessary here, I know some jackpot winners who won about 60 miles away in a more populated area, and have yet to have any trouble. I would at least go to a higher elevation, and create some pl

Mega Millions Jackpot Winner Still Unknown
Every time there is another article printed it just brings more attention to the winner, so I guess the best thing is to get it over with as soon as possible, but many people want to make plans before claiming the money. All jokes aside, I certainly would find it difficult to sleep at night in my place once my name and picture were in the news so I'd first find temporary housing if I couldn't buy a home right away. I know I've often written that people shouldn't be so paranoid about having so mu
